Diocletian divided the Roman Empire in two:

  • The greek speaking East Roman Empire (Greece, Anatolia, Syria and Egypt)
  • Tha Latin speaking West Roman Empire (Italy, Gaul, Britain and Spain)

He also invented the tetrarchy, which divided the emperor's title in four:

  • two Ceasars
