p(3) = - (3)³ + c(3)² - 4(3) + 3 = 0, hence

- 27 + 9c - 12 + 3 = 0

9c - 36 = 0 ( add 36 to both sides )

9c = 36 ( divide both sides by 9 )

c = 4

(x-x_0) is a factor of a polynomial
p(x) if and only if
p(x_0)=0

So, we want
p(3)=0. We have


p(3) = -3^3+ 9c -4\cdot 3 +3 = -27+9c-12+3 = 9c-36

So, we have


p(3) = 0 \iff 9c-36 = 0 \iff x = (36)/(9) = 4
