Answer:

see explanation

Explanation:

If (x + 2) is a factor then x = - 2 is a root and p(- 2) = 0

p(- 2) = -4
(-2)^(4) + 6(- 2)³ + 8(- 2)² + 2(- 2) - 1

= - 64 - 48 + 32 - 4 - 1 = - 85

Hence remainder R = - 85

Since p(- 2) ≠ 0 then (x + 2) is not a factor of p(x)
