First you must distribute, multiply 3 by X and get 3x, then multiply 3 by 4 and get 12. Now you have 3x + 12 - 2x + 1, now combine all of the like terms, you should get 1x +13 then subtract 13 by both sides to get your answer

3(x + 4) - 2 = 2x + 1 \\ \Leftrightarrow 3x + 12 - 2 - 2x - 1 = 0 \\ \Leftrightarrow x + 9 = 0\Leftrightarrow x = - 9
