Answer:

(x + 1)(x + 1)

Explanation:

Do the opposite of FOIL. Find factors of x² and 1 that, when added, will equal 2x.

x² + 2x + 1

x 1

x 1

(x + 1)(x + 1) is your answer.

Check: Follow FOIL. FOIL = First, Outsides, Inside, Last.

(x)(x) = x²

(x)(1) = x

(1)(x) = x

(1)(1) = 1

x² + x + x + 1

Combine like terms.

x² + (x + x) + 1 = x² + 2x + 1.
