I feel as though education intents us to learn it often teaches things we will not need. It does not reproduce social inequality or even attempts to. Nor does it even pave a way to a more egalitarian society.

I think that education paves the way to a more egalitarian society. Basic education in the United States is free, and mandatory for all children. This means that children are able to access the school system regardless of their socioeconomic background. In these schools, all children learn similar things. Moreover, if a child is clever and successful in school, he can access scholarships that will allow him to study at a post-secondary level, regardless of his background. These opportunities ensure that social mobility exists, and that inequality is reduced.
