Domestic profit corporations are organizations founded exclusively for the purpose of generating profit for their owners. There are 3 stakeholders in a profit corporation:

  • Shareholders: The actual owners of the company.
  • Directors: People designated by the owners to oversee the corporations affairs.
  • Officers: Employees hired to run the corporation's day to day operations.

Although the structure remains the same, many companies decide to restructure the ownership of the company in the form of stock. A stock is a right to the ownership of a percentage of the company. Corporations issue stock in order to raise funds. Individuals who own the majority of stocks are the one with the power to make decisions in the corporation.
