The highest point in California is Mt. Whitney with an elevation of 14,494 feet. The lowest point is Death Valley with an elevation of -282 feet. Which is the difference in these elevations?

The Easiest way to solve this problem is to add the numbers absolute values. The answer is 14,776. The difference is 14,494 - (-282) = ? Two -'s = a + so its 14,494 + 282 = 14,776 :D
