Why did farmers let some fields lie fallow?

Some farmers do that it certain fields because it can help Reduce Soil Erosion. Leaving it fallow helps the crops and soil to stand against erosion to grow healthy crops.

By growing continuously crop on the field and again and again using it this process reduces the fertility of land and increasing the mineral content in the soil which lead to decrease the productivity and it also leads to soil erosion.

so, to prevent that farmers leaves there field fallow so that it can recharge and the soil erosion can be protected.
