A study recently confirmed that of every 100 citizens of a certain​ state, 60 are considered overweight. There were 279 million citizens of this state in 2001. How many would be considered​ overweight?

Explanation:

In a study it was concluded that out of 100 citizens 60 citizens were overweight.

If population was 279 million then we have to calculate overweight citizens.

We will apply unitary method in this question.

∵ Out of 100 citizens overweight citizens are = 60

∴ out of 1 citizens overweight were =
(60)/(100)

∴ out of 279 millions overweight citizens were = [tex]\frac{60}{100}(279) = .06×279 = 16.74 million.
