The kinetic theory of heat states that energy is transferred as fast moving particles in an object at a high temperature collide with slow moving particles in an object at a lower temperature. The fast moving particles give some of their energy to the slower moving particles. This is why heat flows from __________ to __________.

A. hot to cold

B. cold to hot

A. Hot to cold.

For example if you placed an ice cube in a glass of warm water, the molecules within the water are moving fast and will collide with the slower moving molecules within the ice, leading to a transfer of kinetic energy from the warm water to the ice.
