Tics are defined as repeated, sudden, rapid, nonrhythmic muscle movements including sounds or vocalizations. Tourette syndrome is diagnosed when people have had both motor and vocal tics for > 1 yr. Diagnosis is clinical. Tics are basically what i have and its very annoying. I suffer form vocal tics. Vocal tics are sounds uttered unintentionally. Some combinations of motor and vocal tics are diagnosed as Tourette's syndrome; tics also can be caused by other conditions. Tics are often sudden and repetitive. While tics may appear to be intentional, they are not.

i hope this helps

A tic is a random or sudden, involuntary, repetitive motor movement or vocalization involving distinct muscle groups. Motor tics can include eye blinking, nose crunching, pulling at clothes or touching others. Vocal tics can include clearing one's throat, expressing simple sounds or uttering curse words or racist terms
