W=mrs. west's age

A=aunts age

x= the amount of years from 60/40

W=A-14

To find W's age:

W=60-x = If Mrs. West's age in years is as much below 60

A=x+40 = as her aunt's age is over 40

Now, we need to find x: combine equations

(60-x)=(x+40)-14 *remember that W is 14 less than A*

60-x=x+40-14

60-x=x+26

60-60-x=x+26-60

-x=x-34

-x-x=x-34-x

-2x=-34

-2x/-2=-34/-2

x=17

Now plug in x into the age equations

W=60-x

W=60-17

W=43

A=x+40

A=17+40

A=57

conclusion,

Mrs. West is 43 years old while her aunt is 57 years old.
