Answer:

Length is 14 inches. Width is 8 inches.

Explanation:

Let the length of rectangle is l.

Let the width of rectangle is w.

From question statement,we observe that

The width of a rectangle is 6 inches less than the length.

w= l-6

P = 2l+2w = 44 inches

2l + 2( l-6) = 44

2l+2l-12 = 44

4l-12 = 44

4l = 44+12

4l = 56

Dividing by 4

l = 56/4

l = 14 inches

Hence, the width is

w = 14-6 = 8 inches

Hence, the length of rectangle is 14 inches and the width is 8 inches.

Answer:

l=14\:in.,w=8\:in.

Explanation:

Let the length of the rectangle be
l\:in. and the width be
w\:in..

Then

w=l-6...(1)

The perimeter is given by

P=2w+2l...(2)

We put equation (1) into equation (2) to get;

\Rightarrow 44=2(l-6)+2l

We can expand the bracket here. But let us divide through by 2 first to get;

\Rightarrow 22=(l-6)+l

Group like terms to get;

\Rightarrow 22=l-6+l

\Rightarrow 22+6=l+l

\Rightarrow 28=2l

Divide by 2 again;

\Rightarrow 14=l

The length is 14 inches.

w=14-6=8

The width is 8 inches.
