21. (06.07 MC) The table below shows the values of y for different values of x:

x 7 8 9 10 11 12 13
y 3 5 7 9 10 13 14
The correlation coefficient for the data is 0.9976. Which statement is true about the data in the table? (1 point)
There is a strong positive relationship between x and y.
There is a strong negative relationship between x and y.
There is a weak positive relationship between x and y.

Answer:

option: A is true.

(There is a strong positive relationship between x and y ).

Explanation:

We are given a table of values of y for different values of x as:

x 7 8 9 10 11 12 13

y 3 5 7 9 10 13 14

by the help of the correlation coefficient we can tell whether the relationship is strong or weak.

if the correlation coefficient is equal to one than the relationship is strong else it is weak.

Here we have correlation correlation coefficient for the data to be 0.9976 which is close to 1; hence the relationship is strong.

Also on plotting these points we see that the values are constantly increasing hence it is positive.

Hence option A is correct (There is a strong positive relationship between x and y ).
