Acid rain throughout the northeast United States has lowered the pH of many ponds and lakes. The lowered pH will eventually result in the death of many aquatic animals. Compare the map of the U.S. With the pH tolerance range for the organisms listed. Based on the tolerances seen here, which aquatic organisms are least likely to survive in the northeastern states?

No diagram shown, but it would be the fish/any other organisms near or in the shallow part/any part of a pond/lake.

Answer:

A) Only the clam would survive.

Explanation: The pH values throughout the northeast are in the 4.3 to 4.5 range. The tolerance zone for the clam drops to 4.5. Only the clam should survive this change in pH.
