Answer:

Length = 18 inches

Width = 9 inches

Explanation:

Formula:

Perimeter of rectangle with length 'l' and width 'b' is given by,

Perimeter = 2(l + b)

It is given that,The width of a rectangle is 9 inches less than the length. The perimeter is 54 inches.

Let 'l' be the length of the rectangle, then width is ( l - 9)

Perimeter = 54 inches

To find the length and width

Perimeter = 2(l + b) = 2(l + l - 9) = 54

2(2l - 9 ) = 54

4l - 18 = 54

4l = 54 + 18

4l = 72

l = 72/4 = 18 inches

Therefoe length = 18 and width = l - 9 = 18 - 9 = 9 inches

Answer:

Length: 18

Width: 9

Explanation:

Let length = L

Width, W = L - 9

Perimeter = 54

Perimeter = 2 (length + width)

54 = 2 (L + L - 9)

54 = 2 ( 2L - 9 )

54 = 4L - 18

54 + 18 = 4L

72 = 4L

L =
(72)/(4)

L = 18

W = L - 9 = 18 - 9 = 9
