What is the equation of the line, in slope-intercept form, that passes through (4, 2) and (-2, -3)? 5x - 6y - 8 = 0 3y = -2x + 20 y = x -

Answer:

y = 5/6x - 4/3

Use the slope formula y2 - y1

---------

x2 - x1

-3 - 2 -5 5

-------- = ---- = ----

-2 - 4 -6 6

The slope is 5/6.

To get the y - intercept you substitute one of the coordinate points. m is the slope.

y = mx + b

2 = 5/6(4) + b

2 = 10/3 + b

-10/3 -10/3

-4/3 = b

Check:

2 = 5/6(4) + (-4/3)

2 = 10/3 + (-4/3)

2 = 2
