. 40 is indeed a common multiple of 4 and 10, but it's not the least common multiple. The lcm is 20.
We can also list some multiples of 4 and 10 and find the lcm.
4: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40...
10: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60...
As you can see, we end up with the same answer: the lcm of 4 and 10 is indeed 20.
