Answer:

-5 + (-3) < -5 - (-3)

Explanation:

so -5 + (-3) evaluates to -5 - 3 which then evaluates to -8, because you're "going back" on the number line by 3.

-5 - (-3) evaluates to -5 + 3 since the negatives cancel out. this further evaluates to -2. this is greater than the previous value so we use the < (if you put this equation on the right side, since you can technically use > if you put the equation on the left side, just depends on what side you put it on)

-5 + (-3) < -5 - (-3)
