Answer: 14

Explanation:

Given : Mr. Torres tells his class of 24 that when they have completed their assignment they may read at the end of class.

40% of the class is reading , i.e. 40% of the class has completed their assignment.

We can rewrite 40% as 0.40 [We divide percent by 100 to convert into decimal]

Now, the number of students completed their assignment =
24*0.40=9.6\approx10

Now, the number of students still need to complete their assignment will be :-

24-10=14

Hence, 14 students still need to complete their assignment.

Answer:

The number of students still need to complete their assignment is 14.

Explanation:

The total number of student is 24.

It is given that if they have completed their assignment, then they may read.

It is given that 40% of the class is reading. If means 40% of the class have complete their assignment.

24* (40)/(100)=9.6\approx10

The number of student can not be a faction value, therefore 10 students have complete their assignment.

The number of students still need to complete their assignment is

24-10=14

Therefore the number of students still need to complete their assignment is 14.
