When you take French in high school, would you already have to have learned French or no?

No you do not have had to learn French. It might help to have some knowledge of the language to help you but you dont have to be perfect in it.

No, not really. If you take it, you're leaning into wanting to learn it, however, I believe you should have some knowledge of France and its language. Perhaps you can just learn some simple greetings and nouns first. I'll start you with: "Salut ! Comment ca va ?" which means "Hi! How are you?". Good luck with your French if you decide to take it!
