Two cars are driving directly towards each other. Car one is traveling at a rate of 45 miles per hour, while car two is traveling at a rate of 75 miles per hour. After both cars have been driving for 15 minutes they crash into one another. Which equation represents this situation? Assume car one travels x miles and car two travels y miles.

Answer:

x/45 = y/75

Explanation:

Car 1

Distance =x

rate = 45 miles per hours

t = 15 minutes

D=rt

x = 45*15

Car 2

Distance =y

rate = 75 miles per hours

t = 15 minutes

D = rt

y = 75*15

The 15 are the same in both equations

x /45 = 15

y /75 = 15

Set them equal

x/45 = y/75
