Explanation:

y² + 8y + 16

let's just think in general, what is (y + c)² ?

(y + c)² = y² + 2cy + c²

now compare with the original expression.

then c² = 16, and c = ±4

and 2c = 8

c = +4

so, the answer is

y² + 8y + 16 = (y + 4)² = (y + 4)(y + 4)
