How did the geography of the Southern colonies contribute to the system of slavery being used

Since the south had fertile land, that meant that agriculture could thrive there. There was a need for labour to maintain the crops because more crops meant that more money could be made. This would lead to plantation owners needing slaves and buying as many as they could so that they would be able to profit off of the labor.
