The energy absorbed by chlorophyll is not directly used

The energy absorbed by a molecule of chlorophyll b is not used directly for photosynthesis, but is passed by a resonance transfer mechanism to a molecule of chlorophyll a. A similar transfer of energy takes place when a carotenoid molecule absorbs a quantum of radiation.
