The Common Core State Standards emphasize narrative writing in elementary school, but as students advance to middle and high school, informative and argument texts become the focus. However, that concentration on narrative writing in elementary school is beneficial for building essential English/language arts skills. Instead, we can broadcast our knowledge, experience and perspective around the world, instantly, with the same message being shared and heard in Singapore, Russia, Brazil, Sweden and Ireland simultaneously. We can use video conferencing, email, blogging, the range of social media, etc. And yet the power of the story remains.
