Give. That:

Joe's rate = x

Ralph rate = x + 1 kmph

Travel time = 2 hours

Hence, distance traveled = Speed * time

Joe's distance : 2 * x

Ralph's distance = 2 * (x + 1)

2x + 2(x + 1) = 30

2x + 2x + 2 = 30

4x + 2 = 30

4x = 30 - 2

4x = 28

x = 28/4

x = 7

Joe's rate = 7

Ralph's rate = 7 + 1 = 8
