On this particular question when we just do half of the problem we can pick out the correct answer from the multiple choice list. -4 + 6 is 2. And divided by 2 is

2/2 is 1 there is only one choice that has an x that is 1. It doesn't hurt, nor take much time to confirm with the y's. 0+9 is 9. And 9/2 is 4.5.
