Answer:

a. The mean mark for the test was 20.667.

b. The mean mark as a percentage is 51.6%.

Explanation:

a. Calculate the mean mark for the test.

  1. Add all of the scores from each student.
    31+18+6+26+36+24+23+14+28+28+32+9+11+22+2=310
  2. Divide the sum by the amount of students who took the test.
    310/15=20.667
  3. Therefore, the mean mark for the test was 20.667.

b. Express the mean mark as a percentage.

  1. Put mean mark and total possible marks in fraction form.
    (20.667)/(40)
  2. Divide the numerator by the denominator (essentially changing the fraction into the decimal form).
    20.667/40=0.516
  3. Multiply the quotient by 100.
    0.516*100=51.6
  4. Therefore, the mean mark as a percentage is 51.6%
