Firstly, it is important to clarify that keeping certain kinds of truth to ourselves is not the same as lying. It is more a matter or privacy than it is of honesty. There are several aspects that make up for our lives as individuals and as members of society: personal, family, work, romantic, etc. When dealing with people in different contexts related to one or more of those aspects, we should have the right to choose what we reveal about ourselves. Not all information is crucial in every single context. Not every truth needs be told. Again, I am not defending lies. However, as long as we are not hurting ourselves nor others, we have the right to filter out truths.
