Lyle Davis and his family were driving to Sarasota to visit the bat habitat. Lyle had been looking forward to the trip for weeks, and by the time they finally got started, his head was spinning like a top. Once they got onto the highway, however, Lyle’s dad began to look confused.
“This just doesn’t look right,” Mr. Davis kept repeating as he drove. Lyle looked out of the car window and sighed. The other cars crawled over the highway like ants on an anthill. Everyone knows where they are going except for us, Lyle thought to himself.
“These roads twist and turn like a pile of snakes,” Mr. Davis muttered. Lyle’s mom suggested they pull into a nearby gas station and buy a map.
“Please, Dad?” begged Lyle. They stopped to buy a map. Mr. Davis’ confusion soon cleared up like fog beneath the bright afternoon sun.
“Sarasota Bat Cave, here we come!” Lyle cheered happily.
