the figure is made up of two right triangles, of which the one above is isosceles, Area Triangle = 1 / 2b x h, where b is the base and h the height, we find the two areas and add them together

1/2 * 5 * 5 = 12.5.5 u²

1/2 * 7 * 1 = 3.5 u²

12.5 + 3.5 = 16 u²

or

1/2 * (5 * 5 + 1 * 7) =

1/2 * (25 + 7) =

1/2 * 32 =

16 u²
