since the ratio the two numbers is 4:3,

we can write,

`(x)/(y) = (4)/(3)`

`3x = 4y`

`x = (4)/(3) y`

If 5 is subtracted from this ratio , the new ratio is 7:3. It can be written as,

`(x - 5)/(y - 5) = (7)/(3)`

`3(x - 5) = 7(y - 5)`

`3x - 15 = 7y - 35`

`put \: x = (4)/(3) y \: in \: \: 3x - 15 = 3y - 35,`

we get,

`3( (4)/(3) y) - 15 = 7y - 35`

`(12y)/(3) - 7y = - 35 + 15`

`(12y - 21y)/(3) = - 20`

`- 9y = - 60`

`y = (60)/(9)`

`y = (20)/(3)`

`put \: y = (60)/(3 ) \: \: \: in \: \: x = (4)/(3) y,`

we get,

`x = (4)/(3) * (20)/(3)`

`x = (80)/(9)`

`hence \: the \: numbers \: are \: \: (60)/(3 ) \: and \: \: (80)/(3)`
