What is the difference between a dependent and independent variable? (Make sure you are able to identify each in an example.)

An example of an experiment:

Watering 3 flowers with different amounts of water, and measuring how much they grow over a period of time.

- The amount of water is the independent variable, and the growth of the flowers are the dependent variable.

-The independent is what you're changing, and the dependent is what you're measuring. The dependent variable, like it's name, changes depending on the independent variable.
