Answer:

Steve has 4, $1 bills, and 8, $5 Bills

Explanation:

x = 1 dollar bills

y= 5 dollar bills

  1. 1x+5y=44\\x+y=12

  2. 1x+5y=4 \\ x+y=12 (you are going to cancel out the x's because they are the same numer)

  3. 5y=44\\y=12

  4. 4y = 32

  5. y = 8

To find x now

  1. x + y(8) = 12

  2. x + 8 = 12

  3. x + 8 = 12\\ - 8 -8 (minus 8 to both sides)

  4. x = 4
