a probability is always the ratio of desired cases over total possible cases.

the overall total cases are 35.

we have 10 for B and 15 for C, so the desired cases for students earning a B or C are 10+15 = 25

so the probability that a student earns a B or a C is

25/35 = 5/7 = 0.714285714... ≈ 0.71
