Explanation:

First, make an equation for the perimeter. W is the width and since the length is three times the width it is 3W. W+3W+W+3W=32. Add like terms and you get 8W=32. 32 divided by 8 is 4 so the width is four. 4x3 is 12 so the length is 12. you get area by multiply length and width so 12x4 is 48.
