5+7= 12
270/12=22.5
22.5x5=112.5
22.5x7=157.5
£112.50:£157.50

Solution
5x + 7x = 270
12x = 270
6x = 135
x = 135/6
so the shares are :
5 × 135/6 = 675/6
£ 112.5
and
7 × 135/6 = 945/6
£ 157.5
