A rectangle had an area of 3/2 square yards if the width of the rectangle is 1/2 yard what is the length of the rectangle in yards

the formula for area of a rectangle is Area = Base (width) x Height (length)

so plug in out values: 3/2 = 1/2 x H

divide both sides by 1/2 to find the height/length: 3/2 ÷ 1/2 = Height

to divide a fraction by a fraction, flip the divisor and change the sign from ÷ to ×

so you get 3/2 × 2/1 = Height

the 2 cancels out, so you get: 3 = height/length
