By 1840, New Orleans Port became the 4th largest port in the world in value of exports. The reasons include, it was the hub of trade and commerce. The port shipped the large quantity of agriculture bounty, cotton and other items to the East Coast, Europe and Latin America.

By 1812 steam boats were introduced to New Orleans which tremendously increased the exports of the port and it also became the shipping center of America. The trade and commerce skyrocketed in value and reached $ 54 million in 1835.
