Ponyboy fell asleep under the stars with Johnny and whenever he woke up he realized the stars had moved. He ran home and hoped to sneak in without Darry noticing, but he was awake. Whenever Ponyboy walks in Darry and him argue. Sodapop tried to intervene and tell Darry it wasn't his fault. Darry yelled at Soda. Ponyboy didn't like that and yelled at Darry for yelling at Soda. Darry Smacked Pony into the door. Ponyboy ran away.

He father was giving him attention, and his father never threatened to kill him either. Like the Soc's.

They turn to Dally for help. They go to an abandoned church in the country.
