11 Karl takes a ride in a taxi and is charged $2.75 for the first of a mile. He is charged $0.25 for each

miles that Karl can ride in the taxicab for a total of $28.50 including the tip. Show your work.

Answer: 89 miles


Explanation: We can make a linear equation given the problem, where 2.75 is the constant and 0.25 is the slope. M can represent miles 28.5 is what we want the equation to equal, so it will be on one side of the equation.

We can simply add the $3.50 tip to the constant to account for it

Thus we have 28.50=0.25m+6.25.

Solving for m gives us 89 miles.
