What is the difference between a free-born man and a slave?

The difference between slavery and its more modern variety was manumission – the ability of slaves to be freed. However, the law gave any children born to freedmen, after formal manumission, full rights of citizenship, including the right to hold office. Informal manumission gave fewer rights.

A free born man is a man who has the authority and right to be and do whatever as he pleases such as the white folks, but a slave is a man who is enforced upon the southerners that he is supposed to work under hard labor and get beat tortured or killed if he doesn’t do what his master(the white man) tells him to do. They are distributed into two sides of the country the southerners who want slaves and think that they are useful for manufacturing, and the northerners who do not want slaves and think that they are as equal as they are which lead tension between them and a fight for slavery to which the northerners won in gruesome conditions but even free born men can own slaves and or go to the south to which they are not able to be enslaved by law
