He needs to get three boxes.

Explanation:

We know that he wants two, we know that he has eight friends coming. He wants two maracas per friend. To find the total number of maracas you must multiply the amount of friends by the amount of maracas.

8 * 2= 16

You add the two maracas for himself to find the total maracas needed.

16+2= 18

Next you divide the amount of maracas needed by six because the are six maracas per box.

18÷6=3

The total number of boxes needed is three
