What do you think Greene meant when he

said the “success of the day seemed to be doubtful for a
long time”?

Revolutionary war, quote from patriot general Nathanael Greene. Could not find exact battle but what he meant; fog of the battle, seesaw of British then Continental forces having the upper hand...it was only later in the day long battle he was assured driving off British forces.
