Igneous rocks are divided into two groups, which penetrate or expand, depending on the strength of the molten rock.

  • Intrusive Igneous Rocks: Intrusive, or plutonic, is an empty rock that occurs when magma is trapped in the depths of the Earth.
  • Extrusive, or volcanic, igneous rock is produced when magma exits and cools above the Earth's surface.

hope it helps!
