Can anyone explain this sentence in a easier way? Thank you!

The quantity of water produced by an area that has been burnt may initially increase as there is little vegetation, and subsequently little water use or entrapment.

Easy words: a fire burns everything in an area, which kills all the plants. Plants need water so without the plants there, more water stays in place and isn't used up.
