Suppose a classmate is having difficulty solving 4(x - 7) > 6x + 2 + 8x.

X < -3

Explanation:

First, you would want to distribute the 4 to the x and the -7. Distribution is just multiplying. So it would be 4x - 28. Then youd combine the like terms which would be 6x and 8x. Add them. You’re inequality should look like this.

4x - 28 > 14x + 2

you need to get the x’s all on one side. I suggest subtraction -4x from both sides to not only cancel out the 4x but it also keeps both sides equal

-28 > 10x + 2

you need to get 10x by itself on the right side so you must subtract 2 from both sides to equal and remove 2

-30 > 10x

divide both sides by 10 to get x by itself

-3 > x

which is the same as x < -3
