Why does identity development take so long. Um, some context we are learning about family (lol whatever that is am I right... alright) and like stages of life.

Identity development takes so long because of experiences. In life you gain new experience and learn new things ( that is if you're not close minded). You meet new people who influence you, whether bad or good. People can help shape your identity, as well as yourself.
